🥫 Feeding

1. Food Preparation

The fish in the housing room are fed a combination of pellet and flake foods at least three times daily, timed to align with the light phase of their diurnal cycle. There is a small supply of food kept on hand in the housing room, separated into two containers for pellets and flakes.

💡 When refilling the individual feeders on each tank, use a mixture of 3 parts flake to 2 parts pellet

2. Food Storage

Additional food can be restocked from the reserve bags stored in the Kao Lab refrigerator, located in the animal facility room 5550, across from the experimental room. Place silica desiccant packs in the food containers to prevent moisture buildup. Occasionally, the revolving barrels of the feeder containers may clog with food. Be sure to thoroughly clean and dry the barrels before adding more food. Notify lab personnel if the food supply is running low and has to be reordered.

💡 Silica packs should be restored by placing the packs in a microwave for 3-5 minutes at medium power (Be sure to check every minute or so to not over heat them and be careful when taking them out, as they are hot!) before adding them to the fish food.

3. Feeder Malfunction

If a feeder is dropped into water, remove immediately and clean out food from the container as well as the tank. Allow the feeder to dry thoroughly and mark with a blue sticker to indicate that it is malfunctioning.
